Pro-bono (high-level) volunteer roles

Below, you will find our high-level roles, covering everything from business management and bid writing to social media management.

With these roles, you will be part of the senior management team; responsible for creating new strategies, as well as supervising other team members in the mid-level roles. These roles are pro-bono; although we cannot pay you for your work now, we hope to be able to as we grow.

Business manager.

Business manager

Are you a highly-motivated self-starter with experience developing and nurturing corporate partnerships? If so, we need your help to increase our number of corporate subscribers.

Role description

You will be responsible for providing excellent customer service throughout the subscriber journey. You will be a first point for corporate enquires.

Key responsibilities include proactively seeking out new clients and networking with key individuals; delivering a sales pitch to prospective clients; raising clients’ business concerns and needs to the company’s management; negotiating and closing business contracts with existing and new clients; following up with clients to ensure they are satisfied.

Person specification

You will need fantastic communication, inter-personal and organisational skills to bring corporate organisations on board with our mission, and to maintain these relationships into the long-term. In addition, you will be able to work to deadlines and create professional networks.

Prior experience in a similar role (networking, sales, or customer service) and knowledge of sustainability is desirable but not necessary.

The nuts-and-bolts

1-3 days a week for 6-12 months (covering parental leave) to start asap. Our team is predominantly based in Bristol but currently, all working is remote.

Social media

Social media manager

Do you have a knack for creating social media strategies filled with engaging content? Content that can both inform, entertain and inspire? If so, we would love to hear from you!

Role description

You will be responsible for developing our social media strategy; managing the day-to-day handling of our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn); developing and managing competitions that promote our work (e.g. poetry or photography competitions); and liaising with other 9Trees’ team members to share interesting developments.

You will also be involved in monitoring, tracking, and analysing the posts’ performance, and improving performance where possible.

Person specification

You will need prior experience in developing and implementing targeted social media campaigns, and familiarity with using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. In addition, you will need excellent communication and inter-personal skills; the creativity to develop an engaging strategy and the commitment to see it through.

Prior experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential. We are very open to less conventional forms of evidence such as that from personal projects, university projects, or charity fundraisers.

Bid writer

Bid writer/Grant researcher

Do you have a proven track-record of creating compelling and persuasive bids and grant applications? If so, we really need your help to get more funding so we can plant more trees.

Role description

You will be responsible for creating clear, concise, accurate, jargon-free, and compelling bids and grants that simply cannot be refused. Every pitch must superbly articulate our values, ethos, and contribution to social and environmental sustainability.

You will be closely involved with the senior management team to identify suitable organisations/ grant bodies to approach. You will also need to keep a good record of all bids written/ grant applications made.

Person specification

You will need to be highly motivated, innovative, customer-focused and with a ‘can do’ attitude. You also need excellent communications skills (verbal and written), a forensic attention to detail and the ability to stick to tight deadlines.

Prior experience in bid writing or grant applications specifically is desirable but not essential. But we do need evidence of effective and persuasive writing, document production, and strong attention to detail.

University liaison assistant

University Liaison Assistant

Do you have a proven track-record of communication, organising and enthusing others? If so, we really need your help to improve our brand awareness, reach more landowners, schools and organisations so we can plant more trees. You will be creating the Future Regional Reps! graduating from Uni with skills and potentially paid positions!

Role description

Your primary responsibility will be to reach out to universities across the UK and liaise with them to advertise volunteering opportunities on their job boards. You will be responsible for uploading pre-created advert material to job boards and keeping track of responses.

Additionally, you will be responsible for setting up and attending meetings between universities and the University Liaison Officer to promote 9Trees opportunities to students.

Person specification

You will need to have excellent time management, communication, and IT skills, as well as enthusiasm for nature and conservation. Self-motivation and initiative are also essential qualities for this role, along with excellent organisation skills.

Prior experience in a similar role (university liaison or administration) is desirable but not necessary.
