Autumn into Winter Newsletter

Happy Samhain

Samhain is a Gaelic festival on 1 November marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or “darker half” of the year.

It’s the perfect time for us to plant your trees!

We have been busy at events chatting to hundreds of people, onboarding landowners and building our team!

This our final Quarterly update of 2023, and it’s hard to fit everything in.

Next year this will simply be the roundups as we expand across the UK into Northern Ireland with ‘Branching Out’ and Scotland with ‘Agroforestry’.

A Word from the Landowner and Planting co-ordinator

'“Since starting at 9Trees we have built a great relationship with our current landowners and we have many new ones on our list who we will be engaging in 2024. We have taken on new Tree planters and its great to be in an optimistic position as we introduce the new ‘Branching out’ way to multiply how many trees we can get in the ground”

“When I was working on a wood 9Trees planted in 2020, I was amazed to see a group of Alder that were 10 to 12 feet tall, which is incredible for 3 years growth. When I had to get in amongst them to remove the guards it occurred to me that I was under the first bit of 9Trees canopy”

“It’s great to be part of an organisation who started from being habitat managers and has flourished into a truly National organisation.”

Joel Thomas October 2023

We are looking forward this year and into 2024 to plant roughly 10,000 trees in Northern Ireland, Wales and England.

We are also running Woodland management sessions and are looking forward to taking guards off next year! We can't wait for you to come and Join us and your wellbeing will be greatly improved!

CHRISTMAS

Christmas Decoration — 9Trees CIC

We believe that a tree (or several or many!) is a perfect Christmas gift. It is a gift that restores biodiversity to the UK, that your loved ones can visit and see grow, as well as helping tackle climate change and create local countryside jobs.

Knowing that £700 million is spent every year in the UK on unwanted gifts, many of which get thrown away, we wanted to create a gift that keeps on giving, a gift that benefits all of us and the wonderful nature on our doorstep.

9Trees Christmas Tree Decoration

Please place your order before the 19th December to avoid disappointment. Thank you!

What the Team have to say;

It has been a rewarding experience working with 9Trees. As their web developer, I've had the opportunity to improve the website's SEO and Google Analytics to reach a wider audience. What I appreciate most about the website is how it provides valuable information on how individuals can contribute to climate change mitigation and the importance of trees. It is also an accessible platform for anyone to get involved and make a positive impact. In addition to providing different ways to contribute, 9Trees also offers different opportunities for people to participate. I am pleased to have played a part in this collaboration and to support their important work.

LUSH funds Days of Discovery

Days of Discovery are a series of events for all family members next year.

They are designed to help you explore the Lush woodlands where our trees have taken root.

From taking part in a nature trail to learning about the history of the area, there are plenty of activities for everyone. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with nature and discover something new.

Each event will be hosted by 9Trees with expert ecologists, botanists, Ornithologists and Entomologists like Joe Botting on hand to gather information about flora and fauna and show you how to do it!

They will answer any questions and provide plenty of interesting facts and stories about the local area.

“Days of Discovery” events are open to all, free of charge, and provide an engaging and educational experience for the entire family.

BLOGS

Here's what our Blog Co-ordinator Neil Insh has to share;

‘‘In the coming months, we intend to cover a wide range of pertinent topics relevant to the environment, including agroforestry, the carbon crisis, the circular economy, and of course - tree planting.

Also, keep your eye out for blog posts in tandem with National Tree Week in November, with a range of posts anticipated over December and into 2024.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed over the last year and encourage anyone who has an interest in writing to make a real difference in the field of conservation to get in touch - we are constantly looking for new writers. Our output is adaptable and we are working towards covering unique and underreported viewpoints, aiming now and in the future to give voice to a wide range of perspectives, such as this recent post on a lack of diversity in conservation.’’
