Starting the year with a lot of agro...

...and we couldn't be happier about it!
We are excited to be working with a landowner in Scotland on a new agroforestry site.
Put simply, agroforestry is the purposeful planting of trees within the existing agricultural systems on the same piece of land: therefore combining trees with crops and livestock. It is a way to grow food, while providing important environmental services:

argoforestry graph
  • environmental sustainability

  • enhanced landscape

  • improved air and water quality

  • reduced soil erosion

  • increased biodiversity

Agroforestry can also provide local communities with food security, nutrition, and income. So, why isn't everyone doing it? Lack of sufficient knowledge, the initial set-up costs, and the daunting thought of looking after the trees, in the long run, is often a roadblock enough for these busy farmers.
9Trees has started a dedicated agroforestry fund. If you want to contribute to this project then you can do so by one off donation or monthly or annual subscription.

Working with land owners...

“We have already planted 6700 trees this year in Wales, and will be planting thousands more across the UK in 2023.”
- Joel Thomas, Tree Planting Coordinator

“We take landowners from an enquiry, through the Pre-planting and right up to planting stage. I love being part of creating such wonderful sites which we can enjoy our whole lives!”
- Khadija Diop, Landowner Co-ordinator

Do good, whilst smelling good.

We are honoured to receive grant funding from Lush's amazing Charity Pot which supports grassroots organisations working to promote human rights, animal welfare and environmental protection. The collection includes body lotions and moisturising bars, but we think they may have created the perfect perfume with this...

“Floral notes unfurl into an evocation of grassy, woodland wonderlands.
Grassroots is a unisex scent which is truly a love letter to the living world.”

Doesn't that sound dreamy? Check out the full Charity Pot collection and the projects which they support here.

All the latest - events and blogs:

We will be attending many events, talks and festivals in 2023 and would love to see you. To see where we will be and get involved Check our Events page here!

Come and get involved at our volunteer day on Saturday 22nd April in Brecon between 11am and 3pm.

Eco-matting is a fantastic opportunity to see our planting sites and give our trees a helping hand! This involves putting out cardboard and woodchip on the trees to prevent weeds and to encourage a fungal compost suitable for the trees. It won't be too taxing but many hands make light work.
